  • Details of the Heritage Evenings
    • Under the Stars @ Hawa Mahal – The Troth-Usne Kaha Tha, a multimedia dance theatre performance, presented by Akademi. Friday, 26th January, 7:30 pm
    • A Majestic Evening @ Amber Fort – Sarangi maestro Ustad Kamal Sabri followed by Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi – A Tribute to Jagjit Singh by Shekhar Ravjiani. Sunday, 28th January, 7:30 pm

Music, theatre and cultural performances will captivate audiences at the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival 2018 during two glorious Heritage Evenings. In association with Rajasthan Tourism, the Festival will host these grand events at Jaipur’s iconic Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal. Being held on the evenings of January 26th and 28th, these events will showcase spellbinding performances against the exquisite backdrop of monuments that celebrate the city’s rich cultural heritage.

Under the Stars at Hawa Mahal features The Troth-Usne Kaha Tha, a multimedia dance and theatre production presented by Akademi, the UK’s leading producer of Indian dance, marking the centenary of World War I. It tells a story of love, loss and sacrifice against the horror and conflict of World War I. Inspired by film noir and the era of black and white films, The Troth will recount the story with use of film and subtitles and unfold the poignant narrative through interplay between image, music and dance. Award-winning choreographer Gary Clarke (winner of a UK Theatre Award 2016 for Achievement in Dance) leads the creative team. Through an intense experience, akin to silent films, audiences travel from the repose of rural Punjab in late 1800s to the strife-torn bloodied Belgian trenches. Part of the Reimagine India programme (Arts Council England/British Council) and the UK-India Year of Culture, The Troth features some of the UK’s most exciting and versatile young dancers.

On January 28th, audiences can look forward to A Majestic Evening at Amber Fort, which will begin with a sarangi recital by Ustad Kamal Sabri. Ustad Sabri Khan is the son of sarangi legend Ustad Sabri Khan and is carrying forward the rich legacy of the Sania gharana of Moradabad with single-minded dedication. Kamal, who is from the seventh generation of a distinguished family of traditional musicians, has demonstrated profound versatility in playing the sarangi.

This will be followed by Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi… a tribute to the late ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh by singer, songwriter and composer Shekhar Ravjiani. The show first premiered at the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore to a standing ovation and brought back to life some of Singh’s legendary ghazals including, ‘Hothon se Choo Lo Tum’, ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’, ‘Tumko Dekha’, ‘Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar’, ‘Tum Itna Jo’ and ‘Yeh Daulat Bhi Le Lo’. It has since gone to Jakarta, Indonesia and after running its U.S. tour in August 2017, it will now enthrall audiences at the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival 2018.

Sanjoy Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, Producer of the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival said, “The ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival’s Heritage Evenings celebrate the built heritage of the state of Rajasthan and highlight its rich cultural and architectural legacy through performing arts showcases. With support from Rajasthan Tourism, we will present some of the best music and theatre performances against the backdrop of over 1000 years of Indian architecture and heritage. These events are exclusively curated to bring our audience closer to Rajasthan’s spellbinding spirit and landscape.”

Entry to the Heritage Evenings are by invitation only. Guests can collect invitations from the Information Desk at the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival on the days the events are held.

From Warrior Fort to Luxury Resort , Alila Fort Bishangarh

THE MAKING OF ALILA FORT BISHANGARH

FROM WARRIOR FORT TO LUXURY RESORT: REBUILDING THE PAST FOR THE FUTURE

Alila Fort

Alila means “Surprise” in Sanskrit, which suitably describes the refreshing character of this luxury resort, a bridge between the past and the future. The hallmark of Alila is the combination of innovative design and luxury in unique locations, set apart by an unprecedented level of private space, crafted artisan-ship, personalized hospitality, and bespoke journeys.

Perched on top of a granite hillock in the midst of a vast expanse of the Aravalli Range, surrounded by hills dotted with havelis, villages and temples, Alila Fort Bishangarh is the result of the adaptive reuse of a 230-year-old warrior fort into one of India’s most unique heritage properties.

Adaptive reuse offers a sustainable option for the reclamation of heritage sites, an inspiring way to preserve and revive an existing building by merging its traditional ideals with modern culture, usage, design techniques and ideas.

Built during Rajasthan’s royal era as an outpost guarding the kingdom of Jaipur (Amber) against invaders from the North, the fort at Bishangarh had long outlived its original purpose. Almost a decade ago, as the fort stood abandoned in a dilapidated condition, inhabited by thousands of bats and monkeys, the owners – a Rajput leader by birth and election and two successful entrepreneurs – together with Alila took a visionary decision to breathe new life into its reincarnation as a boutique resort, while maintaining its stark sanctity.

What followed was an extraordinary journey of transformation to keep this piece of tangible heritage alive, taking complete care to retain the original structure in its full integrity while reinventing it for the 21st century.

Immense challenges had to be overcome – including stabilising and strengthening the ruins, constructing a road up to the fort, finding circulation through 3m thick walls, and deciphering the unconventional puzzle of the organic structure, which featured not a single 90-degree wall.

Upper and outer wings were adapted to the original fortification to carve out 59 suites following the curved and sloping walls of the existing turrets. Rooms and restaurants have been made to fit around the original walls – 2 to 3 m-wide in many places. With no typical floor plan, there were 23 different room configurations in all, the precise details of which took some 1,800 hours to draw up. To add to that, 23 unique venues  have been created for meetings and celebratory events.

Stay tuned more on our visit to Alila Fort and the lovely experience there.

Healing with Compassion

When compassionate healing becomes your life purpose, it takes a lot of courage to follow your calling and that is what Udhay Kumar, a healer and practisioner sought to follow after his years as an Engineer for the past 25 years of his professional career. Today in conversation with Udhay and Lakshmi, his partner in all aspects led to deep diving into how we are our own blocks in bringing prosperity and abundance into our lives.

Are illnesses and diseases a manifestation of our own thoughts and can we heal ourselves ? “Yes”, says Udhay , “Growing scientific evidence has proven that most, if not all diseases are rooted in our emotions. Negative thinking dampens our emotions, and negative emotions dampen our energies. Blocked energies, in turn, weaken our bodies, which lead to severe physical problems.”

So how do we heal diseases, he adds, “The key to healing diseases is to go to the source memory that is causing the issue and eliminate negative thought patterns in order to pave the way towards total physical well-being. Through our healing sessions, you are able to release negative feelings, eliminate pain and suffering, release unconscious blocks and patterns, achieve clarity in your life, heal physical challenges in the body, and solve your problems. The end result is a healthier, happier you!”

We can rise the energy of our consciousness through Karma Healing. Many people also have a false notion that Karma Healing is related to a particular religion, where as it is a technique backed by philosophy.

Using Karma Healing technique one can resolve their issues. Once the issues are healed you will be able to identify Who You are and know your Higher Purpose on this Earth. Our Consciousness is responsible for our actions & our actions become our Karma. Hence, we have to be conscious and mindful of our words and actions, not only for others but for ourselves and those around us .

We have seen people with various health & relationship issues who have got healed. Health concerns like migraine, diabetes, high B.P; anxiety & stress; fear; exams & carrier progress; divorce; conflicting & fighting and abusive home/work environment; worry for children & spouse, and more can all be addressed to and healed. They can take healing sessions or heal themselves as the first step towards being healed is their willingness to be healthy and healed.

So how does one be part of this healing and can they learn it to be able to help themselves and those around them ?

Udhay adds, “We conduct both – group healing sessions and One on one sessions. Personal session’s helps client open up more to their personal issues to the healer and get healed easily. And, Yes one can practice healing and resolve their own issues to move forward and progress in their lives. They can be compassionate and also make healing others a profession as I believe it is the most compassionate way to help the planet.”

How to help yourself to subside the pain

Due to our stressful lives, we all sometimes come across sudden pangs of pain while working on our desks or even at home. Many of you don’t know is that what appears in the physical is the final call of our body and this pain has started sometime back, either in the recent past or way back in the past when we were children or young adults through our thoughts (and even triggered from words we hear about ourselves and believe them to be true).

Our thoughts build up in our own consciousness and ultimately take shape in the form of pain , for some it is momentary and for some it is a pain that they are living with many years.

We are very unattached from our natural surroundings, specially those in the cities who do not even touch the Earth with their barefeet.

Out of personal experience and regularly trying this technique on myself , I am recommending the same to you.

A few years back (way back in 2008) I was hit with a severe case of spondylitis , affecting my work and it became so worse that I would not be able to drive my car back and forth to work. So my option was to get a plaster around my neck or take care of myself …. and I choose to take care of myself. So with regular physio therapy, exercise at home twice daily (yes even after the work, kids and home schedule I did do it) It took me a good 6-8 months to be fit and off medications. I did not stop even after I was alright.

Till this date I do get severe pains, when my stress levels are high and thankfully to my own learning of self care, I understand that it is my thoughts that are working its way and affecting me.

So how do you get rid of the negativity? The thoughts keep coming. I learnt a beautiful technique through my yoga teacher and Reiki teacher to give it all to Mother Earth. And yes believe me it works wonders ! Atleast for the aches and pains in the body.

Here are a few steps you can do when you are in pain specially for your neck, back and legs (works good on stomach pain as well)

If you have a garden in your courtyard then it is best else you can lie down on a yoga mat (even in your apartment is fine as you are touching the ground) or if you are close to the beach , you can do this on the sand near the beach or even on the desert sand … as long as you are able to connect with the Earth in anyway…. BAREFEET please !

  1. Lie down on your back with your hands stretched a little away from your body, palms touching the ground.
  2. feet apart from each other, do not cross them over each other
  3. Calm your breathing and observe your breathe for a few minutes, just feel the flow of your breathe
  4. Breathe with least effort and as slowly and deeply as possible.
  5. Keep your eyes closed all this while.
  6. Once you have calmed yourself, imagine and feel yourself lying and touching the green grass and Earth below you.
  7. Thanking God and the Divine Source for blessing you with good health, thank and give gratitude to Mother Earth for loving and taking care of humanity, the living beings on Earth.
  8. While keeping your eyes closed, say to her “Mother Earth, I bless you and send you my love. I am in pain and having negative energy surrounding me. I ask you to take this negative energy away from me and recycle, renew and reuse this energy for the betterment of the beings on this Earth. I ask you to fill me with positive and healing energy from your being to replace this negative energy.”
  9. While saying this , imagine the negative energy leaving your physical body (through the tips of your fingers of  hands and feet) and your aura and being replaced by Earth’s positive energy , a bright white golden light. Imagine this light entering your head and slowly flowing through each and every part of your body , flowing through your face, neck, spine, chest, stomach, hands, arms, buttocks, thighs, legs and feet … passing through every nerve in your body till you feel yourself filled with white golden healing light.
  10. Stay in this state for about 10 – 15 mins and give even your negative thoughts to Mother Earth.
  11. If you feel a bit sleepy it is fine … you can take a quick nap and wake up at your discretion.
  12. Close the session when you are ready to and thank Mother Earth for the rejuvenating energy and also the Divine Source for the love and healing.
  13. Before opening your eyes, rub your hands together and place them over yours eyes and soak the healing energy for your eyes and slowly turn on your side and open your eyes.
  14. You may now sit up.

I hope you find this useful and can do it at home (even in an apartment) when you are in pain. You can do this on a regular basis. Ideally it is good when you are going for your morning walks and after finishing your walk, you can calm your body and breathing by doing this, lying on the grass. I have also tried this while standing and stretching my arms out a bit so that the fingers are pointing towards the Earth. It works perfectly fine this way too.

Also, after you finish this healing session, you can stamp both your feet on the ground and walk a few minutes on the grass if possible.

Those having digestion and reproductive issues can also do this on a regular basis and feel the difference.

The key is to acknowledge and learn to love yourself unconditionally like Mother Earth and Divine Source loves you unconditionally.

The City with a purpose behind it’s vision

If you would have read my earlier blog about The Future City site visit then you would be able to make the connection to my conversation with Mr. Sharad Mishra (referring to him here as Sharad ji) Director of UKM Group – Trimurty Builders.

Trimurty Builders has a legacy of being in the business of building homes since the last 22 years and the amazing deep rooted values that have been taught by Mr. Udai Kant Mishra – Chairman of UKM group, to his three sons and their families shows in their work and commitment for making lives of others also happier.

The Future City site visit had left me with a nostalgic feeling of not wanting to leave, somewhere in the background I could hear the words, “wow, I am home”. I guess everyone does not feel connected or are able to put a finger at how they feel when they step into a new place. But I guess that is how I connect, it is the energy or urja of the place that makes me want to be there forever or just leave …. So much for being an archer ?

My curiosity grew even more after seeing the expansive area of the project and wondering what was the thought that made a family’s vision come into reality. I always look for a purpose, that is the sign of recognizing a visionary. And that is what Udai Kant ji is and I am sure it is a matter of pride for him and the family as to how the brothers are making his vision into a reality.

From Left to Right:
Mr. Sharad Mishra (Director), Mr. Udai Kant Mishra (Chairman), Mr. Anand Mishra (Director) and Mr. Abhishek Mishra (Director)

Visiting the Trimurty office at Jaipur, greeted by their team we went to meet Mr. Sharad Mishra. Our small chat and exchanging pleasantries, the conversation did become deep as to what and how the whole project was envisioned.

A very calm and composed Sharad ji, explains how the vision of The Future City started taking shape and their purpose being very clear was to accommodate those living in India and outside to own at least one piece of land.

“The reason for developing a plotting scheme like The Future City is the non-availability of organized land developers in this segment of business. The demand for land which we used to get from all over the world and often having prospects saying that though they don’t live in India, they would want to own at least one piece of land in India by which they feel connected to their roots. Many of them felt it a problem in doing that as they did not feel safe and secure about their investments along with the unfulfilled commitments.”

“That’s when we realized that there is a niche in the market and hence we conceptualized The Future City where the plot investment is not a big-ticket investment and affordable for those wanting to own at least one piece of land in their home country.”

“The Future City is safe in terms of its immunity from encroachment etc., and is surrounded by enough anchors of economic growth in future.”

With many other developments around the same area, The Future City does stand out due of its vision, magnanimous size and its committed development.

Being a person, who has always been a GameChanger, I was truly amazed with their thought process of standing out of the herd of development projects. Sharad ji proudly declares the change that they wish to bring in the community, “We want to build a community of home owners which is more responsible and sensible. Instead of spending their hard-earned money in other luxuries of life, they would have spent in making an investment in land which in turn makes them more stable in life and which will add value to their wealth and 360 degrees of happiness. The ease of payment that we are providing to the home-owners is making a very large community attracted towards investing in The Future City.”

If you are a nature and environment lover, then you will surely be able to connect to the vision of Trimurty’s commitment. “Trimurty as a company is committed to environment and in The Future City our focus is on water conservation and green cover in the scheme.”, explains Sharad ji.

So with good healthy living, sustainability covered and environment conservation as the commitment and driving force….. what else is left for you to take that one piece of land …. Return on investment!! Well, Trimurty Builders has got you covered there too!!

“It is my experience of real estate that any investment in land has always given a good return of approximately 18-19% per annum if the investment could grow for 7-10 yrs.” Says Sharad ji from Trimurty Builders.

Leaving after our conversation, it was nice to know in depth about a development in which making an investment would lead to living in a happier and sustainable environment… and of course the lovely nature by your side !

Take a mini break

This has nothing to do with business and work … but just wanted to highlight the value time off holds in our lives … we always have excuses for not taking a break or a holiday on our own … having family and commitments restrict us …gender has nothing to do with it….

Solution : Take a mini-break everyday !! Like your daily cup of coffee …. Possible …of course it is

Give yourself 10 mins in nature (i know it is hot but just do it like early morning or late evening during sunset) … Step out, touch your barefeet to the ground … and intentionally give your worries, fears, anxiety, confusion, anger and everything negative that is stressing you out, to Mother Earth and ask her to use that energy to recycle and reuse that energy and replace it with positive energy from her …. and have faith that what you are facing is momentary and will pass … absorb the Earth’s love like a mother’s love and see how your day progresses …. you can do this on grass, at the beach, in the desert with your feet in the sand or near a pond or sea ! Try it out and let me know how you feel…. if you are lucky to have rains where you live ….go get wet in the rain …. just don’t overdo it !

wink wink ! Have a great week ahead everyone !
